ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Each
unique piece of metal art is hand crafted by award winning international artist MC Foley.
Fine woods and imported Spanish tin are used to create each unique piece,
which take anywhere from several days, to several weeks to complete, depending
on the size and detail. These fine items are perfect for exclusive
gifts, or private collections. Previous
work and special orders may have some small variations due to the
nature of the work.
If you have specific requirements, or your own design, email the details
to MC Foley
- a preliminary estimate will be emailed back to
you for your approval prior to starting work. Your design will not
be used for other items without your specific approval. Please enjoy
the site, and come back often. |
ABOUT THE ARTFORM
The art of Repujado has its origins in Spain
during the 12th century. Examples of the earliest art form predate
the Bronze Age on the isle of Crete. The art form was originally
done with silver both for decoration, and as a protective cover for paintings.
Today, this work is seen throughout the world, primarily in Hispanic countries.
Each
design is first created on paper, then transferred to a thin sheet of soft
tin. The artist works the tin using special tools to stretch and
emboss the material. Each line and effect is done by hand, requiring
many hours to complete a single piece. The "empty" space left where
the tin has been worked is filled with a resin to prevent it from being
damaged and to hold its shape. A patina is applied to accent the
details, then the tin is polished to a high sheen. The entire piece
is attached to a base material, such as wood, glass, or another metal for
the beautiful finished product. |
